UPS Foundation Provides more than $2 Million to Private Colleges Nationwide
$99,750 Gifted to The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges for Scholarship Support
The UPS Foundation in Atlanta, GA, and the Foundation for Independent Higher Education (FIHE) in Washington, DC, have awarded more than $2 million in grants to private colleges and universities across the United States. UPS Scholarship funds will be distributed to 639 private institutions nationwide and will be dispersed to students selected by those institutions on the basis of financial need and academic achievement A grant of $99,750 was awarded to The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) and will provide scholarship assistance for at least one student enrolled at each of OFIC’s member colleges and universities.
UPS has designated $1.83 million for scholarship support. The remainder of the funds will be used for innovative programs designed to improve educational services for students and to encourage collaboration among colleges. Programs will be selected through a competitive matching grants process called the UPS National Venture Fund and facilitated by FIHE. Since its inception in 1999, more than $3 million in Venture Fund grants have been awarded. Including local matching grants, the total impact of the program exceeds $12 million.
Eric Taylor, UPS District HR Manager, presented a check for $99,750 to Jeff Wolf, OFIC President, and Dr. C. Brent DeVore, Otterbein President and OFIC trustee, on October 5. Representatives of UPS, The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) and Otterbein College gathered in the President’s Dining Room of the Otterbein College Center for the check presentation. Also present was Otterbein student and recipient of a UPS scholarship through OFIC, Shing Chow.

With a cumulative giving total of nearly $2.5 Million to OFIC, The UPS Foundation, Inc. has supported OFIC’s mission to provide choices and access to independent higher education for Ohio’s students for 33 years.
OFIC is the primary corporate and foundation solicitation organization for 35 independent Ohio colleges and universities and operates one of the largest, most comprehensive and diverse scholarship management services in the state. OFIC member colleges collectively enroll nearly 97,000 students and award one-third of all bachelor’s degrees in the state. For 57 years OFIC has worked to highlight the leadership, value and excellence of independent higher education and has provided unrestricted operating funds and scholarship commitments through funds raised in annual solicitations of businesses and foundations, thereby assuring continuation of excellence in private higher education. OFIC is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of Ohio’s corporate leaders, as well as presidents of the 35 member colleges.
