Schottenstein's & Value City Department Stores
Announce Scholarship Awards
Schottenstein's & Value City Department Stores have established a new partnership with Columbus Public Schools (CPS) with the creation of the Schottenstein's & Value City Department Stores Scholarship Program. This new program, with an initial $100,000 commitment, will benefit four outstanding CPS graduates this fall and continue through the next four years of their college education.
The first of these Schottenstein's & Value City Department Stores scholarships are being awarded today at a luncheon held at The Hilton at Easton.
The four student recipients are:
Nina Bryant, a Brookhaven High School senior who resides in North Columbus and will be attending The Columbus College of Art and Design
Marvin Jones of central Columbus, also a senior at Brookhaven High School, who will be attending the University of Minnesota
Michael McGee of northeast Columbus, a Brookhaven High School senior, who will be attending Ohio University
Clarence Richardson of northeast Columbus, a Mifflin High School senior who will be attending the University of Toledo
Jed L. Norden, Executive V.P. and Chief Administrative Officer, Retail Ventures, Inc., stated, “Schottenstein’s & Value City Department Stores are pleased to provide these four outstanding Columbus Public School students with an annual scholarship amount of $6,250 to attend a four year college or university of their choice. These exceptional young people have their parents’, teachers’ and our support as they continue into the next phase of life preparing for a career of their choice. We are proud to partner with CPS this year to support the education of these future leaders. We wish them the very best in college.”
The scholarship program is being administered through The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC). The scholarships are merit awards based on academic record, high school leadership, and service to the community. Each student must attend college full-time and maintain an acceptable college record before the award is renewed for the following year. Jeffrey S. Wolf, President of OFIC, commented on the innovative scholarship program established by Schottenstein’s & Value City Department Stores. He stated, “We are hoping that more corporations emulate the leadership commitment of Schottenstein’s & Value City Department Stores by supporting the education of Ohio’s future business and community leaders.”
For more than 50 years OFIC, with a corps of dedicated and enthusiastic corporate and collegiate volunteers, has worked to provide Ohio’s students with choices and access to private higher education. OFIC conducts an annual campaign to solicit financial support from corporations, foundations and other donors and distributes those funds to its 35 member colleges and universities for scholarships, educational programs and collaborative efforts.
