Evening of Excellence

THE OHIO FOUNDATION OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGES
APRIL 6, 2005
OHIO STATEHOUSE ATRIUM, COLUMBUS, OHIO

Since 1950, The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) has functioned as the primary corporate solicitation organization and advocate for Ohio's independent colleges and universities. It is governed by a board of trustees made up of its 35 member college presidents and key corporate community leaders.

In 1987, OFIC established the Hall of Excellence Award whereby outstanding alumni are honored and inducted on an annual basis. This, OFIC’s nineteenth Evening of Excellence, will celebrate these alumni, who exemplify the values of a liberal arts education. The Inductees for 2005 who will join the 89 members of the Hall of Excellence are:

Hugh Downs, (Bluffton University)
Retired, Anchor of ABC News, “20/20”

Dr. Michael G. Hanna (Baldwin-Wallace College)
Chairman, President & Chief Scientific Officer, Intracel Corporation, Inc.

Renee Jones Weeks, Esq. (Ursuline College)
Judge, Superior Court of New Jersey

David L. Hobson (Ohio Wesleyan University)
Congressman, United States House of Representatives

The Evening of Excellence on April 6, 2005, will feature the induction of these outstanding alumni and allow OFIC to appropriately recognize major donors and campaign volunteers for their efforts on behalf of private higher education. E. Keith Hubbard, Chairman, The Hubbard Company, will be presented with OFIC’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Major donors who have reached milestones in giving will also be recognized.

Some 300 individuals, including the OFIC Board of Trustees, CEO's and presidents of Ohio's top corporations, and key community and civic leaders will be in attendance.

The event will take place at The Statehouse Atrium in Columbus. Guests will enjoy a reception, dinner and the induction ceremony. The evening will start at approximately 5:00 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. The president of the inductee’s alma mater will introduce the inductee and present him/her with a medal and a framed composite of the members of the Hall of Excellence. The inductee will be asked to deliver an acceptance speech, and there will be various photo opportunities and brief media interviews scheduled before and during the program.

A block of rooms will be reserved at the Columbus Renaissance (Marriott) Hotel. However, lodging and travel expenses are to be the responsibility of the college or individual making the reservations.
