WAUSEON RESIDENT, RECIPIENT OF A SCHOLARSHIP FROM
THE UPS FOUNDATION, INC., PURSUING DEGREE IN
INTERNATIONAL STUDIES AT DEFIANCE COLLEGE
Andrew Pratt, from Wauseon, Ohio is a junior at Defiance College majoring in International and Global Studies. He is the recipient, for the second year, of a scholarship from The UPS Foundation, Inc. through The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges’ Ohio Scholars Program.
Andrew is active in the college’s Honors Program, works as a writing consultant and global civilization tutor, and is assistant editor of the campus literary magazine. He is a McMaster Scholar through Defiance College’s McMaster School for Advancing Humanity, which educates students for responsible global citizenship, and encourages graduates to take an active role in addressing global issues of the human condition in whatever professions they may choose. Andrew has participated in and presented at several symposia addressing global humanitarian issues, including the 15th International Conference on Learning at the University of Illinois. He has also done research and had field experience teaching English in Cambodia. An Eagle Scout, Andrew is an outstanding example of Defiance College’s teaching of community engagement, volunteering extensively in the local community through Boy Scouts of America and 4-H service projects.
In his thank-you letter to The UPS Foundation, Inc., Andrew expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of himself and his family. “Thank you”, he says, “for the scholarship that has helped provide me so many opportunities to advance my education at Defiance College. The Defiance professors have helped me develop both critical thinking and communication skills. They take an active part in helping their students succeed.”
OFIC is the primary corporate and foundation solicitation organization for 34 independent Ohio colleges and universities and operates one of the largest, most comprehensive and diverse scholarship management services in the state. OFIC member colleges collectively enroll nearly 97,000 students and award one-third of all bachelor’s degrees in the state. For 58 years OFIC has worked to highlight the leadership, value and excellence of independent higher education and has provided unrestricted operating funds and scholarship commitments through funds raised in annual solicitations of businesses and foundations, thereby assuring continuation of excellence in private higher education.
