$35,000 BATTELLE GRANT TO SUPPORT FIFTEEN SCHOLARSHIPS – SCHOLARS HONORED AT AUGUST LUNCHEON
Battelle, a Columbus international science and technology enterprise, provided a gift of $35,000 to the 2008-2009 annual campaign of The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) to support fifteen central Ohio scholars in their pursuit of higher education. Scholars must be majoring in Electrical Engineering, Biology or Accounting or majoring in Education with a focus on math, science or technology.
The scholarship recipients were honored at an August 13 luncheon on the Battelle Columbus campus with family and friends and representatives of Battelle and OFIC in attendance. Guests were given a tour of the facility before the luncheon. Stephen Krak, Battelle Senior Research Scientist, spoke to the group about the importance of education and the variety of opportunities available at Battelle and encouraged the scholars toward analytical independent thought. The event was coordinated by Annelle Anderson, Battelle recruiter, and Beth Divelbiss, Sourcing Specialist. The scholars were honored by Patrick Gardner, Director of Staffing and Recruiting.
Battelle explores emerging areas of science, develops and commercializes technology, and manages laboratories for customers. The company is committed to making the world a better place and supports programs in the areas of energy, health and life sciences, national security, laboratory management, and education to promote an improved quality of life for all. Battelle made its first gift to OFIC’s campaign in 1964 and in the 45 years since has provided nearly $1 million in scholarship and programmatic support, working as a dedicated partner to help provide Ohio’s students with access to higher education.
OFIC, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, is the primary corporate and foundation solicitation organization for 34 Ohio independent colleges and universities that collectively enroll 98,000 students. For 59 years The Foundation has worked to highlight the leadership, value and excellence of independent higher education. Through contributions raised in annual solicitations of businesses and foundations OFIC has provided unrestricted operating funds and scholarship assistance, thereby assuring continuation of excellence in independent higher education. OFIC is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of Ohio’s corporate leaders, as well as presidents of the 34 member colleges.
