COLUMBUS RESIDENT EMILY CLAYTON, RECIPIENT OF
BATTELLE SCHOLARSHIP, PURSUING BIOLOGY DEGREE
AT OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY

Emily Clayton, from Columbus, Ohio is a junior at Ohio Dominican University majoring in Biology and planning to pursue a career in medicine.  She is the recipient of a scholarship from Battelle through The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges’ Ohio Scholars Program.

In a thank-you letter to her scholarship donor, Emily stressed the importance of the financial assistance not only to her but also to her parents, particularly because of the current state of the economy.   Her mother and father, she said, have always stressed the importance of work ethics and academics.  Emily herself has held two or more jobs at a time since she was 17 and also was a VolunTeen at Children’s Hospital.

The first in her family to attend college, Emily says that she is extremely appreciative of the opportunity to attend Ohio Dominican, where she receives individual attention and pursues her love of science in her classes and in a work study assignment in the Biology Department.    In addition to spending time on her studies, she is serving as a Resident Advisor for the 2009-10 academic year and also participates in the concert and marching bands.

“The nurturing atmosphere, current growth of the science department and the overall community of the university are a nice fit for me,” Emily wrote to her scholarship donor.  “I have been blessed with the opportunity to attend Ohio Dominican.  You have contributed greatly to my dreams, and I am truly thankful for the opportunities you have made possible.”
