The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges to Honor Stanley C. Gault, Trustee, The College of Wooster, at April 21, 2010 Evening of Excellence

On April 21, 2010 at its Evening of Excellence at the Ohio Statehouse, The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) will present the first Earl F. Morris Trustee Award to Stanley C. Gault, longtime trustee of The College of Wooster.

The Earl F. Morris Trustee Award was established to recognize trustees of OFIC member colleges and universities who have gone above and beyond the norm for the guidance and betterment of the institution and its students.  It was named in recognition of the late Earl F. Morris, who served OFIC for a record 41 years, both as a corporate campaign volunteer and trustee.

Gault, a member of The College of Wooster Class of 1948, began his service to The College of Wooster with five years as class president.  He later served on the alumni board, was elected as a trustee in 1972, became chairman of the board in 1987, and held that position until his retirement in 2000.   During 28 years of trusteeship, Gault chaired two successful capital campaigns and personally wrote letters, made presentations, and hosted campaign events.   Honorary chairman of a third campaign, he is still a very active emeritus trustee.   Gault and his family have generously supported the college, their gifts allowing the construction of the Gault Admissions Center, the Flo K. Gault Library for Independent Study, a recital hall, and Gault Manor student residence as well as the renovation of a home that became Gault Alumni Center.

The Evening of Excellence also honors OFIC member college alumni, donors, corporate and collegiate volunteers, and students.

OFIC is the primary corporate and foundation solicitation organization for 34 independent Ohio colleges and universities. OFIC member colleges collectively enroll 98,000 students and award one-third of all bachelor’s degrees in the state. For 60 years OFIC has worked to highlight the leadership, value and excellence of independent higher education and has provided unrestricted operating funds and scholarship commitments through funds raised in annual solicitations of businesses and foundations, thereby assuring continuation of excellence in private higher education. OFIC is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of Ohio’s corporate leaders, as well as presidents of the 34 member colleges.

The member colleges are: Ashland University, Baldwin-Wallace College, Bluffton University, Capital University, Cedarville University, University of Dayton, Defiance College, Denison University, The University of Findlay, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Franklin University, Heidelberg University, Hiram College, John Carroll University, Kenyon College, Lake Erie College, Lourdes College, Malone University, Marietta College, Mount Union College, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Muskingum University, Notre Dame College, Oberlin College, Ohio Dominican University, Ohio Northern University, Ohio Wesleyan University, Otterbein College, Urbana University, Ursuline College, Walsh University, Wilmington College, Wittenberg University and The College of Wooster.
