How large are the awards?

A.

The scholarship amounts will depend on the distributable funds available from the trust. These can vary from year to year.

Q.

What are the criteria for eligibility?

A.

Beatty scholarships are for students who will be in college (or business/trade school) in Fall 2015. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled full time at an accredited college, university, trade or business school or a graduate, postgraduate or professional school in the United States in the 2016-2017 academic year.
  • U.S. citizen
  • Qualify for financial aid
  • Submission of application materials by the stated deadline (May 15, 2016)

Children, including stepchildren and adopted children, of eligible PNC employees who reside in Mahoning or Trumbull County, Ohio will be given preference.

How do I apply?

A.

Complete the online application on the E. Perry & Grace Beatty Memorial Fund Scholarship website (www.ofic.org/smr/Beatty). Use the password listed in the program announcement to access the website. You will also need to create your own personal username and password when you begin your application. Be sure to keep this personal username and password, since you will need it to get back to your application.

The deadline for submission of the online application and receipt by mail of an official transcript and a copy of your FAFSA report --Student Assistance Record (SAR) is May 15, 2016.  Mail materials to OFIC/Beatty Scholarship, 250 East Broad Street, Suite 1700, Columbus OH 43215.

What is OFIC?

A.

The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) is partnering with PNC Bank, the Trustee of the E. Perry & Grace Beatty Memorial Fund, to manage this scholarship program, including selecting the recipients. This ensures the selection process is fair and objective.

Is applying online safe?

A.

Yes. Your personally identifiable information is kept secure. Only authorized employees, agents and contractors (who have agreed to keep information secure and confidential) have access to this information. To protect the information being gathered, the scholarship application site has security measures in place including firewalls, encryption, and authenticated access to internal databases where needed.

How do you decide who will receive the awards?

A.

Selection is based on academic merit, demonstrated leadership, community service, and financial need. In addition, children of eligible full time PNC Bank employees who reside in Mahoning or Trumbull County Ohio, will be given preference. The Human Resources Department of PNC Bank will determine eligibility and notify eligible parents of this scholarship opportunity.

How and when will students be notified of decisions?

A.

Decisions will be made and selected scholars will be notified by letter by July 2016. Names of selected scholars will be posted on this web site in August 2016.

How and when will the awards be paid?

A.

Award funds will be distributed directly to the scholars’ institutions after enrollment verification.

Q.

Can these scholarships be renewed?

A.

Yes, scholars may reapply for a renewal award. Renewal applicants must continue to meet all eligibility requirements to be considered.

Q.

What is a SAR? 

A.

Students applying for financial assistance to earn an undergraduate degree are required by most colleges to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (www.fafsa.ed.gov). This application can be completed on paper or online. The results of this application are shown in the Student Aid Report (SAR), which includes your estimated family contribution (EFC)—the amount that your family can be expected to pay toward your education expenses for the year.

What is an official transcript?

A.

This academic record must come directly from your high school office or college registrar’s office and be signed by an appropriate official at the school or college. Records printed from the Internet or other unofficial copies are not accepted. You can request that your transcript be mailed directly to OFIC or you can get a signed and sealed transcript and mail it yourself to OFIC/Beatty Scholarship, 250 E. Broad Street, Suite 1700, Columbus, OH 43215.

Is there an age limit?

No. Students of any age may apply.

Are students working on a second bachelor's degree eligible?

Yes.
