Q.

What are the criteria for eligibility?

A.

Students who meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Students must be at least a senior in high school and the son or daughter of a Schwarz Group Company employee who has been with the company for at least three years as of April 30, 2016 (son or daughter is interpreted to mean natural child, as well as adopted and/or stepchildren or legal ward)
  • Students must be enrolled full time or accepted in an associate's or bachelor's program at any accredited college or university of the recipient's choice in the United States in the 2016-17 academic year.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0 as of December 31, 2015.

How do I apply?

A.

Access and complete the online application on the Schwarz Family Foundation Scholarship website (www.ofic.org/smr/schwarz). Click "Online Application" and follow the instructions on the application page.

The deadline for submission of the online application is April 30, 2016. Email transcript and financial aid materials to  fields@ofic.org with subject line SFF Scholarship.

What is SMR?

A.

Scholarship Management Resources (SMR) is an independent scholarship services provider that is partnering with the Schwarz Family Foundation to manage this scholarship program, including selecting the recipients. This ensures the selection process is fair and objective.

Q.

Is applying online safe?

A.

Yes. Your personally identifiable information is kept secure. Only authorized employees, agents and contractors (who have agreed to keep information secure and confidential) have access to this information. To protect the information being gathered, the scholarship application site has security measures in place including firewalls, encryption, and authenticated access to internal databases where needed.

Q.

How do you decide who will receive the awards?

A.

Scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of leadership, variety of school/college activities, community service, academic achievement and financial need.

How and when will students be notified of decisions?

A.

Decisions will be made and selected scholars will be notified by letter by late June 2016.

How and when will the awards be paid?

A.

Award funds will be distributed directly to the scholars’ institutions at the end of June 2016.

Q.

Can these scholarships be renewed?

A.

Yes, this scholarship will automatically be renewed for four consecutive years as long as the student maintains all eligibility requirements.  Once a student receives the scholarship, the scholarship cannot be revoked due to a change in the parent’s or guardian’s employment status.

Q.

What is a financial aid award letter?

A.

After filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) your institution should provide you with an award letter detailing the financial aid available to you.  If this document is unavailable at the time you file your application, you can submit the results from the FAFSA which is called Student Aid Report (SAR).  Complete the FAFSA and access your SAR at www.fafsa.ed.gov
