Q.

What are the criteria for eligibility?

A.

Students who meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Students who are attending an OFIC member institution full-time.
  • Minimum 2.8 GPA or higher.
  • Have financial need, as verified by college's Financial Aid Director.
  • Recipients can be juniors and seniors in the fall of 2016.
  • Preparing for a career in Accounting or Finance.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential while attending college.
  • Preference for students from Cleveland or surrounding area.

How do I apply?

A.

Complete the online application on the Sherwin-Williams Scholarship website. The password can be found in the announcement from your OFIC college or by emailing fields@ofic.org.

The deadline for submission of the online application and receipt by mail of an official transcript is April 30, 2016. Mail materials to OFIC/SMR/Sherwin-Williams Scholarship, 250 East Broad Street, Suite 1700, Columbus OH 43215.

What is OFIC?

The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) was founded in 1950 and conducts annual solicitations of corporations and foundations to benefit its 34 member private colleges and universities. The majority of funds raised support scholarships through OFIC's Ohio Scholars Program®. The Sherwin-Williams Scholarship Program is administered as a part of the Ohio Scholars Program®.

Is applying online safe?

A.

Yes. Your personally identifiable information is kept secure. Only authorized employees, agents and contractors (who have agreed to keep information secure and confidential) have access to this information. To protect the information being gathered, the scholarship application site has security measures in place including firewalls, encryption, and authenticated access to internal databases where needed.

How do you decide who will receive the awards?

A.

Selection is based on academic merit, demonstrated leadership, community service, and financial need.

How and when will students be notified of decisions?

A.

Decisions will be made and selected scholars will be notified by letter by May 31, 2016.

How and when will the awards be paid?

A.

Award funds will be distributed directly to the scholars’ institutions at the end of June 2016.

Q.

Can these scholarships be renewed?

A.

Yes, scholars may reapply for a renewal award. Renewal applicants must continue to meet all eligibility requirements.

Q.

What is an official transcript?

A.

This academic record must come directly from your college registrar’s office and be signed by an appropriate official at the school or college. Records printed from the Internet or other unofficial copies are not accepted. You can request that your transcript be mailed directly to OFIC or you can get a signed and sealed transcript and mail it yourself to OFIC/Sherwin-Williams Scholarship, 250 E. Broad Street, Suite 1700, Columbus, OH 43215.
