Q.

What are the criteria for eligibility?

A.

Students who meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • One rising sophomore, one rising junior
  • From Cleveland or the Greater Cleveland area
  • Minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA
  • Majoring in Accounting or Finance
  • Attending John Carroll University, Baldwin-Wallace University, Ursuline College, Notre Dame College, Lake Erie College, Hiram College

What is OFIC?

A.

The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) was founded in 1950 and conducts annual solicitations of corporations and foundations to benefit its 33 member private colleges and universities. The majority of funds raised support scholarships through OFIC's Ohio Scholars Program®. The Sherwin-Williams Scholarship Program is administered as a part of the Ohio Scholars Program®.

Is applying online safe?

A.

Yes. Your personally identifiable information is kept secure. Only authorized employees, agents and contractors (who have agreed to keep information secure and confidential) have access to this information. To protect the information being gathered, the scholarship application site has security measures in place including firewalls, encryption, and authenticated access to internal databases where needed.

How do you decide who will receive the awards?

A.

Selection is based on academic merit, demonstrated leadership, community service, and financial need.

Q.

How and when will students be notified of decisions?

A.

Decisions will be made and selected scholars will be notified by letter in July 2018.  

Q.

How and when will the awards be paid?

A.

Award funds will be distributed directly to the scholars’ institutions at the end of June 2018.

Q.

Can these scholarships be renewed?

A.

Yes, scholars may reapply for a renewal award. Renewal applicants must continue to meet all eligibility requirements.
