Malone University: Circle of Understanding

Malone University has had the opportunity to host a variety of programs aimed at spreading education and awareness of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the context of their faith-based Christian community. The Circle of Understanding initiative focused upon providing participants with the opportunity to live out the faith-based mission of Malone, Christ's Kingdom First. by participating in experiential learning opportunities to build awareness, understanding and acceptance. Harriet Tubman & Frederick Douglass Biography Screenings

Malone University collaborated with Maryland PBS to host screenings of Tubman and Douglass documentaries at their campus. The events, open to the Malone community and beyond, featured discussions and reflection sessions. Both sessions on Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass were well-attended by a diverse audience comprising Malone students, staff and local community members.

An Experiment Into American Caste

Professor Byson Davis and his Prejudice, Discrimination, and Inequality class organized an interactive engagement session, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the American caste system journey. Each participant assumed an assigned identity to experience implicit bias and discrimination. The session concluded with a panel discussion and reflection session. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members attended the session, which received positive feedback.

Friendsgiving Soul Food Dinner

Students gathered for a festive Friendsgiving dinner, featuring African American holiday favorites like fried chicken, candied yams, and sweet potato pie. The event offered line dancing, fellowship, and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance.

Holiday Cheer

During the stress of finals week, students were invited to a "chill and chocolate" bar to unwind. Peer mentors took the lead in encouraging their mentees to attend, fostering a supportive environment. The event aimed to provide a relaxing break and promote positive connections among students.



Malone University utilized grant funds to organize a series of enriching activities that focused on culture, equity, and fostering a Circle of Understanding on their campus. These events aimed to promote inclusivity, encourage dialogue, and create a welcoming environment for all members of the community.
