Oberlin College: Neurodiversity Training

Oberlin College hosted a 2-hour training on Neurodiversity for participating staff/faculty.

Impact

7 staff from CED attended the workshop, which was held virtually on zoom. An additional 15 staff, faculty and community members joined the training after it was determined that the trainers could support greater capacity. These attendees came from across the Oberlin campus, including members of the counseling staff, academic advisors, professors, and administrators. Engagement during the training was high, with participants asking numerous questions of the facilitator and sharing their own experiences.

Outcomes

9 participants completed a post-workshop evaluation provided by Landmark. According to the information they shared, overall satisfaction with the workshop was high. Participants found the content engaging and helpful to their practice as student-facing employees. Several expressed an interest in further trainings similar topics.

Partially as a result of the success, there has been conversation with Oberlin’s Office of Human Resources to offer Neurodiversity learning groups to faculty and staff in the upcoming semesters. They are also partnering with the Office of Disability and Access and Center for Student Success to create a Neurodiversity Celebration Week in the Spring semester that will feature workshops and social events.
