Led by experts from the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, these interactive sessions break down real-world money topics to help you feel confident as you plan for life after college and launch your career. Each session builds on the last, so attending the full series means walking away with practical financial knowledge and possible career and internship opportunities at the Federal Reserve. February 12th
Many of us had our parents open a checking and/or savings account for us when we were young. What if one day we want to make a change...
In this session, experts from The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland explain financial terminology such as APY and overdraft protection and talk about "the fine print" to help us make informed decisions when selecting bank accounts and credit cards.
Safety Nets & Rainy Days - Navigating Insurance & Saving for Emergencies
February 26th
Employers often ask us to select insurance plans and benefits, and we all know we need to build or have savings. In this session, experts from The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland will highlight some common insurance terms such as “deductible” and “out-of-pocket-max” to help us consider types of insurance and what we might want or need. We'll also learn about best practices for saving and developing an emergency fund for when those unexpected things in life happen.
Future-Proofing Your Finances - Retirement Lingo & Saving Early
March 12th
While retirement might feel really far away in young adulthood, there's value in learning the lingo and understanding different types of retirement accounts and build awareness of the kind of retirement benefits employers offer and ask us to choose (or require us to contribute to). These sessions led by experts from The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland are aimed at helping us make smart, long-term financial choices as we pursue our careers and livelihoods.
Demystifying Deductions - Tax Basics
March 26th
Employers will ask us to complete common tax forms, and while this session will not get too in-depth when it comes to taxes, we will learn about what taxes are or can be taken out of our paycheck and how to accurately complete common tax-withholding forms such as the W-4. Additionally, this session experts from The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland will share some tax basics for those who are or might become self-employed, contracted employees, or entrepreneurs pursuing their own business.
Engineering Your Earnings - Bills & Budgeting, Managing Your Paycheck
April 9th
This final session will bring everything together and help us learn to manage our money, pay bills, and budget. Additionally, The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland presenters will share information about their internship program, and students will have an opportunity to introduce themselves. This will be a great opportunity to make connections with a key employer in Ohio!
