OFIC Welcomes Maria Torres Alaniz as Assistant to the President, Scholarship Administration and Information Manager

Former Talent for Ohio intern steps into a key role supporting students and scholarship programs

Columbus, OH, —The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) is thrilled to welcome Maria Torres Alaniz as Assistant to the President, Scholarship Administration and Information Manager.

‍ ‍ Maria Torres Alaniz

Maria joined OFIC in the summer of 2024 as a Talent for Ohio intern, a role she nearly overlooked until the job description caught her attention. She reflects on that moment as being pivotal in shaping her career path. As an intern, she contributed to event graphics and promotional materials, developed OFIC’s monthly member campus career newsletter, and supported instructional design.

After earning her degree in Emerging Media from Capital University in May 2025, Maria transitioned into a part-time role as Office and Administration Coordinator, where she served as the primary office administrator, supported scholarship administration, and assisted with Salesforce development projects.

Stepping into her new position, Maria expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to serve an organization that once supported her as a student.

“OFIC has shaped so much of my professional journey, and even supported me before I ever imagined working here,” Torres Alaniz said. “This work means a great deal to me. Being part of an organization that expands educational access is deeply fulfilling, and I’m excited to continue contributing to a mission that has personally touched my life.”

Maria’s experience, insight, and personal connection to OFIC’s mission make her well-prepared to contribute meaningfully in her expanded role, supporting programs that benefit students across Ohio.

“We were so fortunate to work with Maria when she was a Talent for Ohio intern,” said OFIC President Bill Spiker. “Through those experiences, we quickly identified her as someone with high abilities and passion for the work of supporting OFIC‘s mission.”
